Intimate Old Town Alexandria Wedding
Alexandra and Ivan’s Old Town Alexandria wedding was the kind of celebration that felt equal parts timeless and personal. Set against the romantic backdrop of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and the candlelit charm of Landini Brothers Restaurant, their wedding was a masterclass in intentionality—proof that a smaller, intimate event can still be full of grandeur and meaning.
This day was classic, intimate, and romantic in every sense. From the elegant black-tie attire to the dramatic cathedral veil and calla lily bouquet, every detail reflected Alexandra and Ivan’s refined style and deep connection to their faith.

A Love Story That Started on the Field
Alexandra and Ivan’s journey began in 2022 when they sat across from each other at work and spent two summers playing intramural softball together. After Alexandra left her job, the two reconnected over Friday night pickleball games—eventually leading to a sweet first date at Bob and Edith’s in Arlington. Their relationship blossomed quickly from there, and they got engaged in April, less than a year after that first date.
It’s always a joy to photograph couples who bring so much history and comfort to their wedding day. Alexandra and Ivan’s quiet confidence and love for one another were palpable throughout every moment.
Getting Ready in the Heart of Alexandria
The day began at The Duvall House, where both the bride and groom got ready surrounded by close friends and family. The space was peaceful and full of natural light, offering a beautiful backdrop for detail photos and sweet, candid moments.
Alexandra’s black satin bridesmaid dresses and Ivan’s classic black tux perfectly matched the tone of their formal wedding. But it was Alexandra’s lace gown and cathedral-length veil that stole the show. Her look captured the very essence of timeless bridal drama.

A Classic Catholic Ceremony at St. Rita’s
Old Town Alexandria Wedding
Their ceremony took place at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, a sacred space where the couple attends Mass together regularly. The traditional Catholic wedding was heartfelt and reverent, emphasizing their deep commitment to their faith and to each other.
There’s something about the grandeur of a Catholic church—the high ceilings, stained glass, and solemn tradition—that lends itself beautifully to a formal, emotional wedding day. Their vows felt especially moving knowing how much the sacrament of marriage meant to them.

Portraits in Old Town Alexandria
Following the ceremony, we headed to Carlyle House Gardens, one of my favorite spots for portraits in the area. Nestled among historic buildings and lush gardens, the soft green landscaping and signature blue door provided the perfect romantic setting. The light filtered beautifully through the trees, making it a dream to photograph.
To add a touch of fun and personality, Alexandra and Ivan wanted to take a few less traditional portraits at a nearby hotel. We played around with quirky hotel vibes—jumping on the bed, pushing a luggage cart down the hallway—which gave them a playful moment to just be themselves amid the formality of the day. It’s little moments like these that often become some of the couple’s favorite photos.

A Candlelit Reception at Landini Brothers
The reception was held at Landini Brothers Restaurant, an Old Town staple known for its delicious Italian cuisine and romantic ambiance. The restaurant’s darker interior was transformed by candlelight into a cozy and intimate dining experience that felt just right for a smaller guest count.
Rather than an elaborate ballroom setup, the evening focused on good food, heartfelt conversation, and meaningful moments with loved ones. With fewer guests, Alexandra and Ivan were able to be truly present with each person, which made the night feel even more special.
Their calla lily bouquet, the black-tie aesthetic, and the romantic candlelight all worked together to create a celebration that felt elegant but never overdone. It was a perfect reflection of their personalities—simple, classic, and deeply intentional.
